Behind the camera

I'm not going to ask you to say cheese.

Most of my sessions look like a walk that happens to have a camera at it. I'll set you off doing something together — walking, tickling, arguing about snacks — and photograph what actually happens. The pictures people keep are almost never the posed ones.

I'm a Brisbane mum of two, so I know exactly how the hour before a family photo goes. Come as you are. Bring the snacks.

Five ways to spend an afternoon.

Every session includes a pre-shoot chat about what matters to you, a location suggestion that suits your kids' bedtimes, and a private online gallery you can download and share.

Family sessions

From $495 · 60–90 minutes

The classic. We meet about 90 minutes before sunset, walk, play, and I photograph the real thing — including the kid who refuses to look at me. I'll get the one nice group shot your mum wants, then we go back to letting them be themselves.

Good to know

What happens if it rains?

We move the session, no charge and no fuss. Brisbane storms are usually done in an hour, so sometimes we just wait — the light after rain is the best light of the whole year.

How many people can come?

Up to six for a standard session. Larger family groups are $50 per additional person, mostly because it takes longer to get everyone looking in the same direction at once.

When do I get the photos?

You'll get 3–5 favourites within 48 hours, and the full gallery inside the timeframe listed on your package. Everything is delivered as high-resolution files you can download, print and share.

Do I have to pay upfront?

A $100 deposit holds your date. The balance is due on the day of your session. Deposits are transferable if you need to move your date with more than 7 days' notice.

Can you come to us?

Yes. Travel within 30 km of the CBD is included. Beyond that it's $1 per kilometre — Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Toowoomba sessions all welcome.

Will you share our photos online?

Only if you tick the box. Plenty of clients would rather I didn't, and that's completely fine — it changes nothing about your session.

About

Hi, I'm the one behind the camera.

I started photographing my own kids because I was terrified of forgetting what they were like at three. Then friends asked. Then their friends asked. Joy Memories is what happened next.

I've lived in Brisbane my whole life, which means I know which side of the river gets the good light in August and which park has a car park you can actually find at 5pm with a toddler in the back. I shoot almost entirely in natural light, mostly wide open, and I edit warm — the way a good afternoon actually feels rather than the way a filter thinks it should look.

The photos worth keeping are almost never the ones where everyone was looking at the camera.

My sessions are loose on purpose. I'll give you something to do rather than a pose to hold, and then I mostly get out of the way. If your two-year-old melts down, we stop and have a snack — some of my favourite frames have come from ten minutes after a meltdown, when everyone's a bit softer with each other.

I love working with families in the middle of it: the newborn fog, the toddler years, the last summer before someone starts high school. Those stretches feel endless while you're in them and then they're just gone. I'm very glad to be the one who writes them down.

$100 locks the date in. I'll send an outfit guide and a short questionnaire about what matters most to you.
